Independent living communities are designed for older adults who want to enjoy an active, maintenance-free lifestyle while staying independent. They offer opportunities for recreation, learning, dining, and social connection, making them a great option for seniors who are downsizing, living alone, or simply looking for more opportunities to connect with others.
Communities may offer amenities such as clubhouses, fitness centers, swimming pools, beauty salons, movie theaters, tennis courts, restaurants, and a variety of activities and events. While independent living communities typically do not provide healthcare or personal care services on-site, some partner with home care agencies to offer additional support when needed.
Independent living can provide the freedom of maintaining your own lifestyle while enjoying the convenience, community, and peace of mind that come with having services and amenities close by.
-
Assisted living communities are designed for older adults who need some support with daily activities but still want to maintain as much independence as possible. Residents may receive assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, meals, and medication management.
Most assisted living communities offer private or shared living spaces along with communal dining areas and comfortable spaces for socializing, recreation, and activities. Many also provide scheduled programs and opportunities for residents to stay active and connected.
Some assisted living communities also offer dedicated Memory Care neighborhoods within the community. These areas are designed with additional safety features and specialized support for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, including those who may wander or be at risk of leaving the community unsafely.
-
Memory Care communities provide the support of assisted living in an environment specifically designed for older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other forms of memory loss. Residents can receive assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), along with meals, medication management, activities, and opportunities for social connection.
What makes Memory Care unique is the intentional design and specialized approach to supporting residents with cognitive changes. Care staff are trained to provide reassurance, encouragement, and gentle redirection when needed. Living spaces are often smaller and thoughtfully designed to be comfortable, familiar, and easy to navigate. Communities may use smaller neighborhood-style areas, secure entrances, and carefully designed common spaces to promote safety while encouraging independence.
Activities, dining, and daily routines are tailored to the needs and abilities of residents, with an emphasis on meaningful engagement and connection. The goal is to provide a calm, supportive environment where residents can remain as independent as possible while receiving the care and safety they need.
